Thursday, August 27, 2009 ; journal entry(um...hi)by:yiwei

OMG!we had a check-up yesterday.First we had to take our height and weight, then check our eye sight.the person testing me said that i had to change my lenses of my specs.after the eye check,we had to wait very long so it was almost recess so we just went to the canteen.we went around to ask about the injection.after that, we had to wait very long again.the first injection was pain because i laughed.the second was the same as pain, but we had to eat a very disgusting medicine.i think the medicine is for numbing the pain because the second shot will be pain.we had to sit on the floor for about 10 minutes then the nurse will check.if the blood stops bleeding, you can go to have the chinese class.i had my chinese class for 30 minutes

; Andrew's birthday party(justin's journal)

Aargh! I am not sure what kind of present should I buy for Andrew! Should I buy a Naruto keychain, a Gundam seed figurine or the yo-yo? Well, his birthday falls on the 28th of this month (August), so I will still have some time. He will have a birthday party at his house. De Kai, Ryan, Peh Shin, Zhi Shuang, Zi jun, Sherrell Kong and me. We will all go bowling by Andrew's father's car. (Wah! How to squeeze in?!!) Well, perhaps the windows of the car will break and we will all start to fly out. I'm soo looking forward to all those events! I want to see Andrew's face when he receives all those presents from all of us! Bye!

; A skating mishap(justin's journal)

Yeeow!!! That hurts. I was having a nap yesterday when my mother woke me up to tell me that Ryan called to ask me to roller skate with him, Andrew and Peh Shin. I went down on my roller skates and started playing. Ryan found $0.01 in the vending machine, so we chased him for it. I was fast enough to catch him, but as I skated, my roller skate (one of them) went into the drain. I tried to shift it out, but to my disappointment, it hit the side of the drain. I tripped and my arm had some abrasions. My ear hit the edge of the drain and I rolled out. My wounds were bleeding, as well as my ear. Ryan turned back, and Andrew and Peh Shin started to come. Marcus'(from the last classes) sister was there too. She was coming home from her secondary school and she kept asking me if I needed to call for an ambulance. When I went home, my mother applied yellow ointment for me, I screamed, and Ryan could hear me from upstairs. I went to the clinic and the doctor was weird. He asked, "what can I do for you?" I was speechless. My mother said, "He fell down while roller skating. " The doctor took a look at me, and said, "Oh, you fell down." He said my wounds were just abrasions, but for the ear, he will look closer. He yanked my ear, and I screamed in pain. He said that it was just a minor wound, and offered to dress my ear for me. Upon seeing the rough-handed doctor, my mother said, " Never mind, I will do it myself." So we took the ointment back and put it on "Ouch!" after my dinner. Bathing was really hard, man. Bye!"Ouch!"

; The injection(justin's journal)

Ow, my arm still hurts. Today I had the worst injection of my life!!! I was so scard at the library. I was next for the injection, and I was so scared! I saw the needle coming out. Luckily Brandon Chin gave me a tip. He asked me to close my eyes. When the needle landed into the skin, it had a very sharp stinging feeling. The nurse said that I was too nervous and the needle remained there, waiting for me to relax my muscles. When I sat behind Jonathan, I was feeling awful. I saw the medicine poured into Jonathan's mouth. It looked disgusting. When it was my turn, I was even more scared than at the first injection. As the needle went in, it was not really painful. But after that, it was horrible. I felt so numb. When I went out, me, Noel and Yi Ze couldn't put our arms down. (Too painful) So, we were like robots when we wore our shoes. Oh Yeah, I helped Ryan packed his bag and brought it to our chinese class. It was so heavy! I helped him as there was a chinese class going on in 5 Diligence, and he will arrive later alone. Okay, "Goodbye!"

I am very sory because I had wore my PE attire instead of wearing the school's uniform.I think that I had missed out the part where you said that we were supposed to wear our school uniform. I actually asked Justin what kind of uniform we were supposed to wear.He told my to wear the PE attire because we ussually wore the PE attire for excursions.I will never repeat my mistake again and I promise to pay more attention to what you are saying in the future.I will also ask around with more friends and I will write down the things that you say.

; Why I wore PE clothing to school

Dear Mr Wan,
I am sorry that I wore PE clothing instead of school uniform to school today. I had perhaps missed out on the part that you reminded us to wear school uniform for the Science Centre excursion. I assumed that if there was an outing, we would be wearing PE attire as we might have some physical activities and under the hot sun, the uniform would be soggy and too uncomfortable for us to wear. I should have paid more attention to you before and in the future. I will never repeat it again and I will double-check with my friends if I am not sure about the school attire for the rest of the outings.

Thursday, August 20, 2009 ; Parent Volunteer Needed

Dear pupils,

Good news, everybody!

5C, 5D and 5H are going to the Singapore Science Centre on 26 Aug (Wed) during school curriculum time for a course.

The course is titled "My Body". There will be demonstrations by Science Centre lecturers as well as a visit to the Human Body Exhibition.

We'll be moving off to the Science Centre from school at 7.45am to have breakfast there. Please bring along your own food or money to purchase food (Eating at McDonald's is allowed). The course ends at around 11am and we'll probably move off at 11.15am and reach school at around 12pm.

Best of all, the course is free and you need not pay a cent.

I'll need one of your parents as a parent volunteer to tag along with us. Please leave a comment for this post if your parent can go as a parent volunteer. They do not need to pay as well but will need to report at the canteen at 7.45am.

Let's all have fun at the Singapore Science Centre!

; why I never answer your question

Hi Mr Wan, the reason I had not answered your question in class today was because my whole group did record their temperature daily in their handbook. I thought I need not answer your question for that. I am sorry, so in future I will just say my whole group had recorded the temperature. Well, it is better to be safe than sorry, right?

P.S Enjoy your long holiday by not looking at our faces!:)

Sorry Mr. Wan that I never answered your question as you asked all the group leaders. I should have been more attentive and answer your question. I promise that this will be the first and the last time I will not answer your question. I remembered I did answer your question but maybe I said it in a very soft voice that you could not hear. I will speak up the next time, loud and clear.

Sunday, August 16, 2009 ; Journal

On the last month, which is July, I had both a fun month and a bad month. Why? Fun because Mr Rizal, a teacher on probation, came to teach us for three weeks and we had lots of fun, all in all.

But why did I say I also had a bad month? It was because when it was the last day Mr Rizal was going to teach us and had a surprise party, I was disappointed that many of us were not included in the surprise and were chased out by our own fellow classmates. I understand that it was on good intentions, but firstly, if it was a CLASS surprise party, why wasn't the whole class in it ? And secondly, if majority of us are standing outside the classroom waiting to go in, wouldn't it create a scene and Mr Rizal would know a bunch of classmates who are inside the classroom are up to something ?

This is just one of the reasons why I had a bad month. The second reason was that I found out that my group was cheating. Teachers always remind us to display the Elias core values, and I think that they (my group) overlooked Integrity. On the last day of July, I stood up against my group to tell the truth of them cheating, but with the fear that my team mates would be angry at me. Many groups also stood up against them, (using ‘them’ as I wasn’t the one cheating.) giving evidence that they cheated. I did not understand why everyone wanted to win so badly. The prize was just a LEGO item, at most a figurine. Well, about the fame, no one in this class actually even bothers about it. You just win and that’s it. No one bothers! They don’t care whether you win or not. I think part of the reason Mr Wan gave the title ‘Group of the Month’ is because he wanted us to be active in class and make us work with others with different characters, and he hoped that we shown teamwork. His intention was good, but I think everyone is taking it too seriously, resulting in arguments in groups and cheating. We should have fun and we ought to be honest.

I hope at least half the class will understand my feelings on how others take it too seriously, then resulting into using dirty methods to win. Let’s say you’re playing soccer, and you want to win badly, but the ball is at your opponent’s team, so you rush up to the person with the ball and kicks his legs and he falls, then you get the ball, but then later you got a penalty for kicking your opponent, and when your opponent gets back the ball, wouldn’t you be thinking that you wish you had not kicked your opponent, but instead getting the ball in the right way and then aim to score?
P.S: Sorry but I’m not sure how soccer exactly works. I don’t play soccer.

Thursday, August 13, 2009 ; Pupil of the Month for July

Dear pupils,

Please take note that these pupils are chosen before the LIFE presentation which took place on 7th August.

The pupils of the month, July, are:

1) Nicholas Cheow, for putting in extra efforts to clear his corrections and improve himself. He's the only pupil who gave me his 5A Part 1 and 2 Math workbooks to clear.

2) Bryana Ong, for working very hard to improve in her work. I can see her attempts to improve herself.

3) Azril B Muhammad, for having the integrity to stand up for what is right and doing the right thing at the right time. If not for Azril, certain undesirable things would have gone undetected and I won't be able to step in or take actions.

4) Jia Yuan, for proving that he's a capable group leader I'd like him to be. He has shown more responsibility and leadership.

5) Esmond Li and Wei Song, for earning the respect from classmates and achieving Group of the Month. Sometimes, I feel like separating them to spread the "good" to other groups.

6) Sherrell Kong, Cassilda and Zi Jun, for giving Mr Rizal wonderful memories in the farewell party. Great planning. It may not be perfect but if the thoughts count, I'd have sensed it well if I were Mr Rizal.

7) Michelle Hsieh, for leading a group of 3 boys well. Your group has shown me what team work means.

8) Phoebe Collins, for working the extra mile to catch up with the rest despite being in London for so long. Your learning attitude impresses me. I'm sure you'd do well when you come back next year.

9) Beatrice Ng, for driving your team forward despite not being your group leader. I'd have wished you are in my team when I was in primary school.

It was a marvellous month of July whereby many pupils have put in the extra mile for either the class or their own group.

Nobody can be perfect in this world. But everyone can put in extra effort for themselves or people around them. It's these kinds of action that make 5D a pleasant place to be in.

There are simply many other pupils who are responsible and filled with integrity, particularly in early August. I'd make it a point to nominate you guys for Pupils of the Month (Aug).

; Leonardo Da Vinci

Dear pupils,

This month, August, seems to deal a lot with Da Vinci.

First of all, screening starts in 5D during recess from tomorrow 12 Aug onwards. The show screened is titled "Leonardo". It's produced by BBC.

For those with Discovery Channel (CH12), there's a show every Wed at 10pm called "Creating Davinci" starting this week. It's about using modern Science to build the machines Leonardo Da Vinci invented. I've seen some war machines which are quite nasty.

I'll be recording the above shows on DVD. Hopefully, we can play them in class.

16 Aug (Sunday) also marks the last day of the Da Vinci exhibition at Singapore Science Centre. Go beg your parents to bring you there.

I might be heading there as well during the weekends. Don't be intimidated by my presence and please don't shout my name if you see me there. I prefer to appreciate the works of the genius undisturbed.

Ali has 336 stamps. 42 of them are local stamps and the rest are foreign stamps. What percentage of the stamps are foreign stamps?

There is also a mistake in the following question:

"Jerry bought a car in 2007. The value of the car decreased by 20% in 2008. In 2007, the value of the car was $79 200. This was 90% of its value in 2008. How much did he buy the car at?"

It should be:

Sunday, August 9, 2009 ; Esmond's Journal

Last Friday, we gave Mr Rizal 2 surprises as that day was his last day teaching us. The first surprise was during recess. Mr Rizal walked to the canteen with us and some of us pop the balloons. After that, we ate those snacks that some of us brought and drank some drinks. We offered Mr Rizal some snacks and drinks and asked him to take more after one serving. The second surprise was in class. When the bell rang, everyone ran back to class. Some of us were inside the classroom decorating it with balloons all over and whiteboard was full of words. When Mr Rizal came in, we asked him to write a wish on the balloon and pop it as well as the other balloons. After that, we did a presentation on the Science Information chart that we have done. We were awarded 1000 points as we had much information. I really like Mr Rizal and hope that he would be teaching us again.

Comments: Publish! I hope Mr Rizal gets to read this

I wore ankle socks to school today because I only have ankle socks at home and the ones I wore today were my highest pair of ankle socks and I thought it would be okay because it covered my ankle, like what Mr Ang said, and I also thought it would be okay because when I got to school I asked some people and they thought my socks were high enough. Today when I go out for dinner, I will buy new socks and not wear my ankle socks to school anymore. I am sorry and will not do it again.

Mr Wan I did not cut my nails because yesterday I had to stay back in class. As our Chinese class talk very loudly and made our Chinese teacher angry and cannot finish our work in time.By the time I reached home it was 2.20 p.m. left 30 minutes more before going to my English and Maths tuition. (Including eating and bathing)The tuition was from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and I had to take bus which is about a 20 to 30 minutes journey. When I reached home, I left 10 minutes to eat as I will have a badminton training wit Yi Zhe , his father will be fetching me and Yi Zhe to Anglican High at around Bedok(if I spell wrong Pls tell me)by car. After the 2 hours of training it was over.By the time I reached home it was 9.45 p.m. The training was very tiring and I felt sleepy so after bathing, I had forgotten about cutting my nail. This morning I wanted to cut my nail but I could not find my nail cutter and whaen I see the time it was 7.10 p.m. so I had to go to school. But today when I came home from school, i had already cut my nails so I hope you can forgive me.You have just read the reason why I never cut my nails.

I can go to the library today! the fun thing about going there is that for every four books borrowed, I can get a pack of three cards. I still nid more cards to complete the story. At the back of a card, there is a small portion of the story, and when i get all sixty cards. i can get the whole story. I have many cards that i have not attained and i also have a repeatition of cards. So I am going to the library more often to get the cards I do not have. I am also considerinf to exchange the extra cards for the cards that I do not have. Got to go to the library!

They even lost the match badly.I wonder if it is fun at the Road Safety Park! The opponent is also very strong! They won handily too! Today, with the scorching hot sun, I think going to the Road Safety Park is not a really good idea. By the way, our team took a really long time changing players. Even the judge got fed up. Some of us even gigled. We almost won the game but thanks to one of our team mate, we lost by two points!

I hope Michelle gets along with Glennis. 23 MORE DAYS TO MICHELLE'S BIRTHDAY!I've got 4 presents for her. i got 100 points for my group, they're gonna be so happy!
P.S. I think Doreamon's author changed.
comments:Publish! Doreamon's author was dead a few years back. I never caught the new episodes.

--i don't even know how i got 'publish' for this..--yun ling--
